用六(용육)은 六(육)을 사용하는 길 즉 陰(음)을 사용하는 길을 말하고 있다. 이것은 坤卦(곤괘)만이 아니고, 64卦(괘)의 모든 陰爻(음효)의 사용법을 말하고 있다. 陰(음)을 사용하는 데는 오래 동안 貞(정)을 지키는 것이 좋다.
彖辭(단사)에서 말한 牝馬之貞(빈마지정)은 바르고 견고한 道(도)를 오래토록 지키는 것이 좋다는 말이다. 이렇게 오랫동안 貞(정)을 지키면 나중에는 한없이 큰 업적을 올리게 된다.
象曰(상왈) 用六永貞(용육영정)은 以大終也(이대종야)라. 이것을 彖傳(단전)에서는 含弘光大(함홍광대)하야 品物咸亨(품물함형)이라 하였으며, 여기서는 大(대)로서 끝난다고 하였다. 坤卦(곤괘)는 柔順(유순)을 生命(생명)으로 한다.

(The lines of this hexagram are all weak and divided, as appears from) the use of the number six. If those (who are thus represented) be perpetually correct and firm, advantage will arise.
象傳(상전):用六永貞(용육영정)，以大終也(이대종야)。
Xiang Zhuan:
'(The lines are all weak and divided, as appears from) the use of the number SIX: - but (those who are thus represented) becoming perpetually correct and firm, there will thereby be a great consummation.
